Music Arcade Mode Selection

Music Arcade is the main hub for selecting a mode of play (referred to as Performances).
There are, currently, 3 modes available: Chapter Stage, Studio, and Catch Live.

General information[]

Gameplay[]

Gameplay consists of tapping notes as they come toward the the scoring line at the bottom to the rhythm of a chosen song.

Sliding Notes

Sliding notes are trails that begin and end with a note. Tap and hold, following the trail to the end. The end note does not need to be tapped, just release the hold. If the beginning note was Missed, the end note can still be tapped when it comes time.

  NB!: The following notes only appear in updated songs marked "Renewal".

Flick Notes

Flick notes require being swiped in the direction the arrow is following.

Special Notes

Special yellow notes are worth more points when the are successfully hit.

Hit Accuracy and Combos[]

Players have to tap, "slide", and flick notes at the precise moment it reaches the scoring line, with the points awarded determined by the accuracy of the hit.
Hit accuracy is labeled as:

Marvelous, Excellent, Good, Fair, Miss

Marvelous is a perfectly timed hit, scoring the maximum points. Misses will award no points.
Hit accuracy can be increased by leveling the player's Choreography Skill. Choreography Skill can be increased by spending Speakers on lessons.

Hit combos are counted by the number times the notes were hit with Marvelous and Excellent results successively. A Combo is reset when you score Fair or Miss. Good hits are not counted but do not reset your combo.
A combo of all Marvelous and Excellent hits results in an All Excellent performance.
A combo of all Marvelous hits results in an All Marvelous performance.

Health Points[]

Players are given limited Health Points (HP) to clear a song. Missing a note or hitting a note with a Fair result will cause HP loss.
In Chapter Stage, full depletion of the HP bar will result in failure of the performance.
In Studio Mode, full depletion of the HP bar, the song will pause and the player will be presented with 3 options:

  • Exit the performance, resulting in failure.
  • Restart the performance from the beginning. Performances can be restarted for free 5 times a day. After, it will cost 1-2 Music Points, depending on song length.
  • Continue the performance from that point. This option costs 5 Gems Hive Gem.
On a non-adjusted HP bar, approx. 8 Miss notes or 16 Fair notes will result in failure.
Some Chapter stages increase HP. 200% HP = 16 Miss/32 Fair notes to failure.  150% HP = 12 Miss/24 Fair notes to failure.

Studio Mode HP can be increased by leveling the player's Record Skill. Record Skill can be increased by spending Mics on lessons.

Music Points[]

Songs can be played by spending Music Points Music Point. Points spent depends on the duration selected to be played: 1 point for Short performances, 2 points for Full performances.
A threshold of 15 can be held with 1 point recharged every 10 minutes (2h 30min for a full refill). Additional points can be purchased from the Shop for Hive Gems Hive Gem, though points totaling above 15 will cease refills. Special group music points are received with group pass subscriptions.

Ready Screen[]

Ready Screen

The Ready screen is where the stage setup can be reviewed and adjusted prior to play. Music Point(s) will be deducted only after tapping Play.

Performance Cards[]

Performance Cards can be freely selected regardless of the song, limited only to group and one per member. Tapping a card will bring up the inventory of cards owned for that member. Tap any card to equip a new one.

After tapping Ready, a window will appear to adjust the speed of the notes decent. Speed ranges from 1-15 and can be adjusted in increments of 1 or .1. This window will appear before every performance, unless disabled. It can be reenabled in the game settings.

Estimated Rank & Score Buffs[]

Card Stat

Below the cards is an estimate of the score rank that can be achieved with a fully successful performance with the cards currently equipped. The estimate is based on each card's Card Stats, along with buffs from any Card Stat Bonuses, Collection Bonuses, or Lesson Bonuses. Tapping any of the icons will open a window showing the Total Bonus Effects. The ranks are, from least to best:

C, B, A, S, SS, EX

When playing a song for the first time, cards that would achieve the maximum possible score will be automatically equipped. This can also be manually done later by tapping the Recommended button.
To change an individual card, tap the card to be taken to that idol's card inventory, then tap the card to be used and tap Equip in the pop-up (A card's EXP can also be increased through this window).
The buffs received from any bonuses are represented by a yellow section in the estimate bar.

The Card Stats Bonus is applied based on the number of concept photos collected of that particular idol and is added to the equipped card of the matching idol's Card Stat. +1 is added to the card's stats for every photo collected for that idol. Additionally, select profile skins will add +3 to the stats. The amount being added by the buff can be checked by going to the Artist category of the Collection Book and tapping on the idol.
Recommended Theme icon For some songs, a Recommended Theme effect will be applied when a card of a selected Album theme is equipped. This effect increases the equipped card's base stats by 55%. Cards with the effect applied will be marked in its top left corner. A song's recommended theme will be shown on the left side of the Ready screen.

Collection Bonus
Collection Bonus Buff icon

The Collection Bonus is applied based on the number of concept photos and profile skins collected in that songs assigned theme sets. Each photo adds 0.5% to the performance score.
A Bonus Theme effect is applied for collecting cards of a song's assigned theme set(s). A percentage is applied based on the total base stats of the highest levels of cards currently or previously owned, between 1%, 3%, and 5% bonuses. In the effects window, a progress bar will show the maximum amount of card levels needed for the top percentage. Each song has its own assigned set and multiple sets bonuses will stack. This bonus will stack with the other Collection Bonuses.

Lesson Bonus

The Lesson Bonus shows the current Lesson Level. In the effects window, the levels and effects applied by each skill can be reviewed.
The Stage Bonus buff is based on the level of the player's Stage Skill. Each level adds 0.5%. Stage Skill can be increased by spending Spotlights on lessons.

Stage Movie[]

The Stage Movie is the scene that is displayed in the background during play. This scene can be set to a video or a static image by tapping the respective icons. There are two generic scenes available by default. Other scenes can also be purchased.

Result Screens[]

Play Result

The first screen shows the total score and rank achieved during play, along with a breakdown of the accuracy of note hits. Max Hits is the longest combo of notes hit consecutively without a Good, Fair, or Miss. Also displayed is a player's highest score achieved with the song and that score's position in the song's leaderboard rank or the results of the mission (Chapter mode).

The last screen presents the rewards for the performance. Performance cards each gain an small, equal amount of exp. EXP is also added the the Player Level.
All performances award a base amount of Gold Gold, based on difficulty and performance length. An additional 250Gold can be gained by watching an ad in the final result screen.

Additional gold will be rewarded based on the level of a player's Snap Skill. Snap Skill can be increased by spending Cameras on lessons.


Chapter Stage[]

Chapter Stages are mission-based performances of preselected songs with varying requirements to clear for rewards. Stages use the short or full length versions of songs from any of the artists, and may also include extra conditions that increase difficulty. Completion requirements can be made slightly easier by viewing an ad in the Ready screen.
If the performance ends in failure, it can not be continued and must be started over from the beginning. Once complete, the stage cannot be played again.

Stage Settings
  • HP%: HP limit is increased by the listed percentage.
  • Fade Out: Notes are invisible until they approach the scoring line.
  • Fade In: Notes are visible until they approach the scoring line.

Group Stages[]

Limited-time chapter stages are occasionally available during group anniversary dates (debut, fandom founding). They can be found in the Music Arcade mode selection screen during their respective events, listed before the Chapter Stage selection.

Studio[]

Studio Mode

Studio is the main single player mode where songs can be played without preconditions.

The Top Ranking Score on the song's leaderboard, along with the best score the player has achieved is displayed under the album cover. The top 50 on the leaderboard, as well as the player's position on the board, can be viewed by tapping the trophy icon. Leaderboard

After completing a performance, a Clear badge will be displayed. Each difficulty will have its own badge. If the performance is completed with an All Excellent or All Marvelous result, a Perfect Hits badge will be awarded, replacing the clear one.
NB!: The badges will be awarded regardless of song play length.

Songs[]

Songs from any group can be played in Full or Short durations with four levels of difficulty: Easy, Normal, Hard or Super Hard. In addition to difficulty, each song has a Level listed to further establish the complexity of the performance.
NB!: Super Hard is unlocked by completing a song on Hard with at least 50% HP remaining. A few songs do not have a super hard performance until they are renewed at a later time.

Songs are categorized by group, along with a full list. They can be sorted by Album Release Date, Name, New Song, (Best) Score, Level, and Event by tapping the drop-down menu. Tapping the arrow swaps between ascending and descending. A song can also be selected randomly by tapping its icon Random.

Songs can be assigned to a list of "Favorites" for fast selection. To add a song to the list, select a song, then tap the pink bookmark on the album cover image. Tap a second time to remove. Tap the icon for the list. Favorites
NB!: The Favorites list is also used by the Catch Live mode.

Auto-Play[]

Auto Play will play the performance itself with no input needed from the player. This option is unlocked by clearing a Full performance, and each difficulty will need to be cleared to unlock for that particular difficulty. The normal rewards for playing a performance, such as Gold rewards, performance card EXP, and some related quests (ie. Clear Studio x#), will be given as normal. However, all notes will be registered only as Good hits.

Music Challenges are a series of goals that reward Hive Gems Hive Gem. Goals include difficulty cleared, total times cleared, score thresholds, and hit combos. Score and combo goals are unique to each song. They can be viewed by tapping the ribbon icon Music Challenge in the song selection screen.

Studio Step-up[]

Step-up window

Step-Up is an achievement system through which rewards are given when goals are reached in the Step-Up Score. The Set-up score is a total of the highest scores achieved from playing [RENEWAL] songs in studio mode. At certain milestone points, two songs will need to be cleared with an All Excellent result to continue. Scores can help be further increased by acquiring and leveling higher card grades and types or acquiring collectibles from a song's assigned theme.
There are currently 180 steps.

Step-up Rankings

The rankings are a leaderboard showing the top players and their scores with [Renewal] songs. Tapping the playlist button Step-up Playlist will show a list the top score that player has achieved in each song they have played. Tapping a song will further show the exact cards the player had equipped (NB! will only show if it was recorded after the update this was added).
A separate list will show only the top scores among players accepted as friends.

Catch Live[]

Catch Live Lobby

Catch Live is a multi-player mode that allows up to 8 players perform a song together in real-time. Only full versions of the songs are played and each performance requires 2 Music Points Music Point. Unlike other modes, there is no health bar, so there is no performance failure from missed notes.

Selecting a group takes the player to a public lobby to be randomly matched with up to 7 other players who have chosen the same artist. Each player can vote for the song to be performed.
Quick Match will take the player to a public lobby with the shortest waiting time, regardless of artist.

Private Live[]

Private Live creates a room for only players who are invited. Playing this mode does not require Music Points. No rewards are granted for playing this mode. Whoever creates the private room is the "host". A room is created by tapping the Private Live icon. Private Live

After creating a private room, the host can either select a specific song or choose randomly from all songs or just songs of a specified artist. Unlike Catch Live, Private Live does not have a countdown timer. The host must start the performance.

Invites

When created, a Live ID is randomly assigned to the room. This ID can be used by others to join the room.
To use an ID, tap the Invite icon Invite on the Catch Live screen and enter the ID in the pop-up.

Tapping Invite Friend allows the host to directly send invites to friends that are currently online. Only the host can send direct invitations.
When an invite is received, it can be viewed in the main lobby and the Catch Live screen Invite. It can be either be accepted or declined via the invitation pop-up.

Lobby and Ready[]

Public room

When more than one player enters the lobby, a 30 second timer will begin to countdown. During this time, players can tap the [CHANGE] button to select the song they wish to play. Alternately, players can choose to Delegate Selection to one of the songs chosen by the other players (this is the default). The song for the performance will be randomly selected from the ones chosen. Selected songs can be seen above a player's Concept Photo.

NB! Songs assigned to the list of [Favorites] through Studio Mode is accessible during song selection by tapping the button. It is highly suggested this be used for quick selection due to the timer.

While waiting, players can select Stickers to display to the others. There are basic text stickers available to all players. Stickers of the selected lobby's artist that a player has previously purchased can also be displayed. Tap the sticker icon Stickers to bring up the selection menu.
In a Private Live room, stickers from all groups can be used.
Players can also change their Concept Photo by tapping on it.

Once song selection is complete, players will be taken to the Ready screen. In this screen, the difficulty of the performance can be selected: Normal, Hard, or Super Hard. Each player selects their own difficulty to play at.
NB! Super Hard must first be unlocked in Studio Mode.
Players will have 15 seconds to ready up to play before being sent to the performance. This can be skipped by tapping Play (though there still be a wait for the other players).

Event Theme[]

Event Themes are selected card themes that will provide a buff to the Card Stats based on the combined total Card Stats Card Stat of the cards collected in those themes. Tap on Event Theme in the Catch Live main lobby to see the cards that have been collected and the total boost being provided.

Gameplay[]

Gameplay is mostly the same to the other modes with some exclusive features. The Rank bar (1) shows the Group Grade and Score. The Group Grade is calculated by the average of everyone's play score. All players' individual scores are displayed (2), highest to lowest.

Catch Note and Catch Time

During play, special Catch Notes will appear (4). Successfully collecting this note will fill one letter in the word [CATCH] (3), in order. Once 5 notes are collected, Catch Time will be activated for a limited time. Catch Time adds a score multiplier of x1.2.

If any the first 5 Catch Notes are not collected, they will continue to appear until 5 are collected or the difficulty's note limit is reached. Catch Time will only activate once, and notes will no longer appear afterwards.

Super Catch Time

Around the bridge or final chorus of a song, Super Catch Time will automatically activate for all players and continue until the end of the song. Super Catch Time adds a score multiplier of x1.5.

Result and Scoring[]

MVP award The first result screen shows the final Group Grade and Score. The green section of the Rank bar shows your contribution to the rank. The contribution percentage is also be displayed. Next, the player who was designated Most Valuable Player (MVP) will be shown. The MVP is the player with the highest score.

In the next screen, the final individual scores and difficulty played of each player will be displayed under their photos. Tap the Card Equip icon Card Equip Info to see that player's detailed hit results and equipped cards.
The Stickers can also be selected to display to the others once again.
Tap the Like button Like to send a like to that player.
Tap the Add Friend button Add Friend to send a friend request to that player.

The next screen shows your individual score results.

Rewards[]

Rewards for Catch Live are Skill Items that can be used to unlock skills and upgrades in Lesson.

All players are awarded Live Points Live Point based on their Individual Grade. A second reward of Live Points is granted based on the Group Grade. The player awarded MVP receives an additionally 50 Live Point reward.
Each player will receive 1 Mic Mic, Speaker Speaker, Camera Camera, or Spotlight Spotlight, chosen randomly.
Finally, players will receive an amount of Catch Pass Points Catch Pass Point. 100 points are granted for the first 3 performances a day. After the three, 10 points are awarded.

Event Theme

Bonus Skill Items are awarded based on the combined total Card Stats Card Stat of the performance cards collected in those themes.

Catch Pass[]

Catch Pass

Catch Pass is a tiered reward system, equivalent to a Battle Pass used by many current games. Players earn rewards by collecting enough Catch Pass Points Catch Pass Point to complete the level. The points needed for the current level can be seen on the progress bar. The first 3 performances completed per day award 100 points, with all further plays awarding 10 points. Passes have 50 levels to reach, after which Repeat Reward items are activated. The total amount of catch pass points to get through all levels is 7,675[2]. Catch Pass resets at the beginning of the month.
Free Catch PassRoyal Catch Pass There are 2 passes: Free Pass and Royal Pass.
The Free Pass is accessible to all players and rewards are mostly limited to Skill Items. The Royal Pass is a purchasable second route with more valuable rewards, such as up to twice the Skill Items, Hive Gems, and EXP cards, and a choice of FX Theme Profile Skin and cards.
Royal Pass holders can collect the rewards from both Royal and Free passes. The pass can be purchased at any time and already unlocked level rewards will be retroactively awarded.

Two types of passes can be purchased: Royal Pass or Royal Pass Plus. Only one version can be purchased during a Catch Passes duration.

Penalties[]

There are penalties enforced to prevent certain malicious behaviors by players.

  • Disconnecting after player matching is complete results in a 20 minute restriction of play after 10 accumulated instances
  • 30 consecutive MISSes after the game starts results in a 2 hour restriction of play after 5 accumulated instances
  • Recording 0 points for score results in a 30 minute restriction after 1 instance

Cheer Mode[]

Cheer Mode is a single player mode where songs are played by tapping to the timing of the of the Squad Leader's movements, in a fashion similar to the official fanchants of artists songs.
As of the Season 4 update, Cheer Mode is unavailable for play. Though developers hinted at a new version before the update, it is unknown if it will return.

Retired Modes[]

Live Stage[]

Live Stage was a multiplayer mode where players compete to achieve the highest score in a song. Each player selects a card for one of the song's group members to play as. While the entire track is played as normal, score bonuses would only be applied during the selected members parts in the song.
As of the Season 4 update, Live Stage is no longer available for play. It was later replaced with the Catch Live mode.
